Course A (Tour through the coast)

Depart from Morioka around 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, and stay in Miyako City
Arrive at Sendai Station after 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20

Tour Highlights
  • New community development in a “community of tsunami prevention” affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake (Taro area, Miyako City)
  • Community relocated to higher ground after the Showa Sanriku Tsunami (Toni area, Kamaishi City)
  • Community relocated to higher ground after the Meiji Sanriku Tsunami (Yoshihama area, Ofunato City)

Course B (Tour to Kamaishi)

Depart around 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, and stay in Kamaishi City
Arrive at Sendai Station after 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20

Tour Highlights

  • Residents-led reconstruction and community development taking landscape into account (Nebama Beach, Kamaishi City)
  • Disaster prevention education pupils/students who survived the Great East Japan Earthquake experienced (Unosumai area, Kamaishi City)
  • Disaster management and reconstruction policies of Kamaishi City (Kamaishi City Hall)

Course C (Tour to Rikuzentakata)

Depart around 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, and stay in Rikuzentakata City
Arrive at Sendai Station after 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20

Tour Highlights
  • The “miracle pine,” which survived the tsunami from the earthquake and became a symbol of reconstruction, and earthquake remains in the City (Kesen-cho, Rikuzentakata City, etc.)
  • Reconstruction in Rikuzentakata City, where “community development from scratch” has been taking place (Takata-cho, Rikuzentakata City)
  • Presentation on disaster management and reconstruction policies of Rikuzentakaka City (Rikuzentakata City Hall, etc.)

  • *The time to start and end the tour is approximately the same for all courses.
  • *After arriving at Sendai Station, it is possible to travel to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, or Kobe within the same day by bullet train.
